Many artists are inspired by nature. They take a walk in
the woods and are compelled to capture the beauty
around them. I find that same inspiration in the art
museums of the world. I am moved by the artists who
went before me, to re-capture their images and make
them my own.

In this series of paintings, Hokusai is represented by his
woodblock print, The Great Wave Off Kanagawa, which
he created around 1831. Hokusai was definitely inspired
by nature. The power and violence of nature in The
Great Wave are balanced by the confidence and expertise
of the small men in the small boats.
Venus is represented by the armless statue of Venus de
Milo which was discovered on the island of Melos in
1820. It now stands in the Louvre in Paris. Although it
is claimed that her arms were never found, I've come to
the conclusion she knows where they are.
